A Variety of Songbooks

Members of the United Shape Note singers use a variety of songbooks for their singings.  Not all members of the group use the same selection of books, so photocopies are made to pass out for certain songs.  These books and copies are carried to each singing in suitcases like the one seen here.  Although not all singers carry the same selection of songbooks, one book that is consistently seen is the maroon-covered Church Hymnal.  The book is a collection of popular songs from different regional music publishers, including Stamps-Baxter and J.D. Vaughan.
